Nettie Nails: SweetHeart Nails

Valentine's Day is a day away... And mainly women are indulging in the festive wear. If you aren't into wearing hearts all over and pink and red from head to toe, try a more subtle look by dressing up your nails. Want to achieve this look? It's easy here's how.

You'll need:
3 shades of pink nail polish and 1 confetti nail polish and top coat.
I used NK Nail Enamel with Hardeners in Lavender Sachet, Jordana Confetti Nail Polish in Lilac Hearts, Jordana Polish in Pink Shock and NYX Girls Polish in Girly.

1. Apply a Basecoat to protect nails and let dry.
It's always a good idea to apply a basecoat to ensure there's no nail discoloration.

2.Apply each Pink polish to any nail you choose.
I prefer using a pattern. One Pink to a nail and repeat pattern.
Add two coats to each nail and let them dry completely.

3.Apply Confetti Nail Accents.
Once nails dry, apply the confetti nail polish making sure to apply the hearts to whatever nail you choose. The hearts aren't easy to catch on the nail brush so be patient! Apply as many hearts as you like.

4.Apply Your Topcoat.
Once the nail accent polish dries ,apply your Top Coat and Wah-La! Sweet Heart Nails!

Ms. Lydia Caesar. I first heard of Lydia Caesar sometime in 2010. I finally had a chance to see her perform live at The JINGLE BELL ROCKS charity concert at Sullivan Hall NYC. Ms.Caesar has a wonderful soulful voice, great style (it's like a natural, funky ,glam retro rock kind of style) and her showman ship is wonderful. She's very engaging and personable which I love. While at JINGLE BELL ROCKS Lydia Caesar performed a Song titled ST.LOUIS.PEEP THE VIDEO

COMMON AND DRAKE BEEF?

OK... Why has this emerged and for that reason? Well it's assumed Common was referring to Drake on his single he dropped titled "Sweet". Now.. Although Drake name wasn't mentioned in the song, one assumed that the shoe was definitely his size so I guess he wore it. Or at least people believe so. Drake's verse on "Stay Schemin'" ( a record with Rick Ross and French Montana)is believed to be in response to The Chi-Town rapper Common.

Nettie Nails: 80's Nails

The Inspiration

When I have time between blogging, vlogging, making jewelry, eating, styling and more I find time to spice up my nails. This is one of my favorite designs to do. The best part is you can use any color you want! Here's how to achieve the look.

You will need 5 colors,base coat, top coat and one Black nail polish with a thin brush.

1. Get your favorite polishes in your favorite colors (5 preferably) and Your Base Coat.
I used Calcium BaseCoat by Jordana, Pink Shock by Jordana Polish, 036 Yellow, 020 Midnight Blue, 076 Teal, and 078 Swan by NK nail enamel with hardeners.

2. Start by applying one coat of your base coat and let dry.
You want to apply the base coat to fortify your nails with nutrients and ensuring that your nails are protected.

3. Apply two coats of your white polish.
Make sure you allow nails to dry between each coat. By applying the white coat you enchance the other colors you will apply afterward.

4.Apply each of the colors you have in random places on each nail.
Make sure when you apply each color make random strokes on the nail, leaving a section of white left on the nail. Do NOT let colors mix. they can touch but NOT mix. EXAMPLE BELOW

5. Once the polish is dry apply your black polish with the thin brush.
Use very thin lines of the black polish to section of the colors. Make sure to cover uneven lines within the color blocks.

6.Let dry and apply your top coat.
I used Jordana's Diamond nail hardener clear topcoat.

And there you have it! 80's Nails! Enjoy -Nettie McFly.

Detoxing for the New Year

So we are in the year 2012. This is a time to Renew, Refresh, Restore and to Revitalize. If you were stressing on 2011, now is the time to put ALL of that stress behind. When stress tries to creep up on you, put a stop to it right away! Here are some ways to detox the body for the new year.

1.Renew your thinking.

Stress enters the body through the mind. Anytime you feel a mental overload springing forth ask yourself these questions.
1.How did this situation occur?
2.How can I avoid this situation in the future?
3.What can I do to resolve this situation?
Often times we tend to over think. It's good to let your mind relax from the who, what, whens and why's for just a moment. I suggest reading. Whether its the Bible, Daily Devotionals, Poetry, or any kind of literature that doesn't harbor the negative feelings and thoughts you may have seeping into the mind. In order to change your situation, you first have to change and switch your thinking.

2.Relax.
Some situations are beyond our control. Often times we stress from trying to change things that we cannot. Other times, we tire our bodies from over-work and excess partying. We need to recognize that there's a difference between being productive and being busy. Step back at times and take time to re-evaluate your motives behind your actions. Determine whether or not your actions are Productive or Counter Productive. You can do this all in the midst of relaxing. Try giving yourself a pampering day.

Go the the Salon and/or Spa. It's good to pamper yourself as much as possible. When you look better, you feel better.

If money is tight you can pamper yourself at home. Put on some relaxing music, give your self a mani-pedi (ladies),turn the phone off, Wash and cleanse the hair and skin. (I suggest products from Sabon and Carols Daughter) soak in a nice warm bath with soothing aroma therapy, or whatever way you like to pamper yourself, DO IT! Fellas, this applies to you also, Turn on ESPN, hit the gym and hit that spa too! You're not too macho for a pampering day. Get in that barber chair get that tape up, shape up or what-have-you too!

3. Detox!
Detoxify simply means to rid of toxins. While the Spa has many ways of doing this, and so does reading, eating right, Abstaining from bad habits helps aid in the detox process.
1.Rid your life of toxic people and relationships.
If this means severing some ties with people who cause you strife, confusion, and just plain aggrevation, then do so! Sometimes people and relationships are seasonal. So as hard as it may be you will have to sever some times this year if you hadn't already.

So pull out the black book, the Ipod, the Blackberry and start erasing those numbers. Oh yeah clean out that Facebook friends list too!

4.Change your habits.
Holiday time brings out the inner fatty in us. So you may have packed on a few pounds at those holiday parties. That's okay. Change your eating habits. If that means cutting back on sweets, carbs, or fast food then you better hop to it. If you party every weekend and stress about money, then it's time to change that. Cut back on the clubbing and bar hopping. Your wallet will thank you. If partying isn't your forte' and overspending is, you are just as guilty! Try budgeting. Set goals for yourself each month. If your are trying to get a new car,place or whatever... cut back on the unnecessary spending. We all have habits we are trying to rid ourselves from. Each day try to switch your routine. Do something new everyday. If it's spending less money, less time online, less time on the phone, less time watching tv, smiling more, or whatever! Change at least one thing in your daily routine and try something new. Detox from bad habits! Put those resolutions to work on a daily basis. -Nettie McFly

Hey folks.. Nettie Here :-) If you recall recently NMO informed you all about the Charity Event Jingle Bell Rocks held at Sullivan Hall in Brooklyn, NY curated by KelSpencer. Although I was tardy (shame on me) I did attend. I made it just in time to catch Ms. Lydia Caesar , Spade and Kel Spencer & Flo Blitz. The venue was packed yet not packed to the point of comfortableness which is a plus. People from all walks of life came out with canned goods, toys, and clothing in tow to give to the cause. Anyway, I managed to catch some of the artist performances to share with you all who missed it. You guys really should have came out it was awesome! As most of you know, I am from Charm City A.k.A Baltimore. In the mist of the city known for numberous things such as Monuments, historic culture,and the famed HBO hit series The Wire; the city's music scene is on the rise at a rapid pace. In the mist of a city that is very well depicted on the series in some facets ,you have to know how to maneuver. One who goes by Slick Deville is definitely one making moves in Baltimore's music scene. Lets see what this Charm City native is up to....

NM:Hey What's going on?

SD: Hey whats up out getting some air. Whats going on?

NM:Are you ready for the interogation process? It will go by quickly.. lol

SD: Yeah I'm ready let the intergrogation begin lol

NM:Cool...Ok I know you once went by the name King Daniel, Why the name change to Slick Deville?

SD:I didn't come into my own yet I didn't know who I was musically. Changing the name a lot of the pieces of the puzzle was coming together. During the time, my style
of music changed. So it was really me coming into my own and figuring out who I was as an artist.

NM: That's understandable.So Who is Slick Deville? And what does Slick Deville represent

SD:Slick Deville represents the struggle, Slick Deville represents me, Slick Deville represents you.. everybody. You know/ It's everyone who is out to make something of themselves and get it their own way. It's really for everyone who was told that they couldn't do something by someone. Regardless of what anyone says I'm gonna go out there myself and get it.

NM:OK.. I know you are a true lover of Hip Hop and you listen to a variety of music new and old school. Tell me Slick, who has inspired and influenced you to pursue music?

SD:Originally it was Tupac, I think he was my inspiration. Later on down the line, I started listening to Nas, He's my second favorite Emcee of all time. Pimp C, Scarface, Biggie and Andre 3000 (Of course) to name a few. That"s really it. There's a couple of new people out I listen to but definitely Pac, Nas, Andre 3000 and Pimp C as far as influencing goes.

NM:I had your single "PAPER ON" playing as The Song Of The Week.The feedback was amazing! So I let it rock for two weeks instead. What do you consider your lane is in music? Some rappers are Conscious rappers some are Gangster Rappers some are Party Rappers etc. Where do you fall?

SD:I just get in my zone and try to create good music. I'm a student of the game. I listen to Soul, Rock, I listen to everything. So over the years I have broaden my horizons in music. I came a long way. To answer your question, I don't think im in a lane. I make music for people to enjoy whether they are going through something or whatever. Music is designed to make you feel a certain way. If my music can make you feel a certain way that's cool.

NM:So tell me about your new project SOUNDS FROM THE FUTURE.

SD: The new project SOUNDS FROM THE FUTURE which is available online right now, it is a great body of work. Originally I wanted to put out an album but the process was taking a little longer than expected. My last mixtape (AREA 51) came out a year ago. I was trying to put the album out to see how the listeners felt about my music. Along the way I figured I'd put out something right now, Let people know I have things coming. I plan to be way more consistent with newer projects. SOUNDS FROM THE FUTURE is Crazy! It's lyrical, It's Swag, It's Party. It's a lot of things I feel people will enjoy.

NM: I agree. Being that we are both from Charm City, I can recognize the influence of the city in your music. Are you pushing to be signed to a major label or are you focused on expanding your brand independently?

SD:Well the goal right now is to go independant. I have my own label Street Counsel Entertainment Which I am the Chairman, Founder or what have-you. I have two artist right now on the label I will be pushing. I plan on taking the independent route as far as we can push it. Then I'll consider having a machine behind us but right now we're independent all the way.

NM:How long has Street Counsel Entertainment been established?

SD: SCE was orginiated in 2007. As long as I've been rapping I have been apart of a group. At that time things in the group wasn't going the way I thought it should go so I decided to exit myself from the situation and branch off and start my own brand. When I did that I wanted to create something people can identify with so that led me to start SCE. I didn't want to be a worker all my life So I decided it was time to Boss up ya know!

NM: I agree. I feel what you're saying about being independent. Labels now are looking for artist who have a set following. Speaking of set following I checked your Reverb and you have quite the following. How do you feel about the feedback?

SD: For me, It gives me more of a purpose. I always had this vision and the talent. It was just about getting people familiar with my movement. When I do a show and put out a mix-tape or what have-you, I get a good response. It makes me feel like I'm getting a good response I should go harder. So as of now I've been succeeding its a pretty good feeling.

NM:That's great. You don't strike me as a person who will lose themselves in their music. So that leads me to ask you this, What are some words of wisdom you would give those who are trying to get into music?

SD:Yeah. For the artist out there who don't know which way to go or how to promote themselves, it starts with the package first. You have to get your music together first before you have it out there. Once you have that, then you can focus on promoting and getting people aware. You have to believe in what you are doing. At the same time, don't surround yourself with Yes Men or Yes Women
( people who always say yes to you.) Surround yourself with people who care about your craft and what you're doing. Just keep pushing. No matter what anyone says keep pushing. As long as you believe in yourself that's the first step.

NM: Great advice. Tell people where they can hear from you and Street Counsel Entertainment.

While keeping myself updated with the Rebel Fuel movement to stop Hunger, I came across this statement posted on the Wall of STREET KING's page.

"How fucked up that we have evidence that the big Banks have been corrupt, yet our governments aren’t punishing those that have stolen from the pension funds.

Our Politicians are puppets for whoever pays them into office. That’s how fucked our system is. Their broken promises for change cant happen especially when the system is corrupt

And children who need a meal go without because our politicians won’t stop thinking of themselves long enough or how to win the next election, too look around them and see how bad it is.

Pondering Paths ( A Notion of putting yourself in motion)

“Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.” -Proverbs 4:26 To me, this means think of the paths you are taking in life. Evaluate your plans for your life. Seek Gods counsel. ” In all thy ways acknowledge him and he will direct thy paths.”-Proverbs3:6 There are times when you may not be certain of your future. Or you may second guess the path you are taking in life and what steps to take towards a brighter future. Also, the people who “tag along” along the way. But I’m begining to learn daily to keep my eyes on the Lord and his promises. Here are some scriptures that expresses his promises. These are just a few I came across while reading.
John14:15 ” If you ask anything in my name,I will do it.
John14:18 ” I will not leave you comfortless:I will come to you.
John15:7 ” If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you.
John15:16 ” Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you that your fruit should remain:that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give to you.
One day, I saw a Rainbow in the sky. (an actual rainbow!) It was upon a cloud. This Rainbow sat at the TOP lining of this particualr cloud that sat isolated in the sky. ( Notice how the Rainbow was on the top of the cloud and isolated )The Rainbow was extremely bright and the position it sat showed me that I too can remain on TOP of my game as long as I meditate and belive in Gods promises.Sometimes, We're sat alone without friends, family , and companions at times to get to know yourself better. And you can do so by establishing a better relationship with GOD. As I drew CLOSER to the cloud,I began to see more color… I for one, took that experience as God sending a reminder of his promises as he did in the Old Testement to his chosen people. The Father never goes back on his word. As you begin to draw CLOSER to God you will begin to see more and more of his promises springing forth in your life. How lovely is that?

The Latino List premiered on HBO On September 28th ,2011 But HBO shows this compilation of influential Americans of Latino decent frequently. I came across this while in my leisure time. Although I am not Latina, This show has really inspired me. THE LATINO LIST is directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders; interviews by Maria Hinojosa; executive producers, Ingrid Duran, Catherine Pino and Susan Gonzales; produced by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, Tommy Walker and Michael Slap Sloane. The show features interviews from Eva Longoria, Emilio and Gloria Estefan, America Fererra, Armando Christian "PtiBull" Perez, John Leguizamo and Marta Moreno Vera to name a few. The Latino List is very inspirational and insightful. These artist and individuals touch on their accounts of what it is like growing up Latino in America. Majority of these trailblazers has come from a background of poverty and hardworking families. Faith boast throughout this program. I was captivated by the determination, will and strength of everyone featured in this program. Quotes like " Don't ever not recognize yourself in some one else"

Dreams and Fruition

(Ephesisans 4:1)

This particular scripture sparked a flame in me,a desire- inwhich to get up and step out in FAITH in order to continue my walk with God. Whom I’d like to call (The creator of all things). Also, it just confirmed alot of notions I had deep inside me; telling me that my dreams weren’t coming to FRUITion unless I plant the seed to harvest such beautiful fruits of Success and Love that I longed to share and give to the world as Christ did.
If you noticed FRUIT is the root word in fruition. This my friends isn’t by accident. In order to have your dreams to be fullfilled you have to work towards your goal.
The Farmer is a perfect example. A Farmer prepares ALL YEAR AROUND! They prepare for their season.
They know what fruit or crops spring forth in what season.
They enjoy “The fruits of their labor” after preparing and planting… turning up bad roots and keeping watch on their crops in the field. Watering and tending to the crops.
Just as we should allow Christ to water and tend to us. The word of God, the scripture is the seed that becomes rooted in us once we cultivate and act on it. Then shall it spring forth.

“And he (we) shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bring forth his FRUIT in his(our) season; his leaf shall not wither and whatsoever he (we) doeth shall prosper.”-Psalm1:3

We to have to be as Farmers.

No matter what your calling , your gifts and talents were GOD GIVEN. It doesn’t matter if your an Artist, Photographer,Actress,Minister,Rapper,Singer ect. You may share your occupation with others just know,THERE’S ONLY ONE YOU! NO ONE CAN FULLFILL THE CALLING THAT GOD HAS CHOSEN FOR YOU! That’s why he picked you; chose you.

Your gifts and talents were appointed to you specifically and for a purpose. So rememeber any gifts, talents,and dreams that were instilled inside of you that you just can’t shake, be aware of the fact that God wants us to use them to his advantage.
So pay close attention to what He has given you. Ask for guidence, wisdom, and courage to use thoes gitfs in this world.
You only have one life to live, one body to enjoy it in and one spirit that guides you through it. The spirit of The Most High God.!

I found out about Ms. DonLadyii by watching Vague and Babs Presents Queen Of The Ring. Queen Of The Ring is a entity on the rise that houses some of the most talented and innovative females who are making their footprints heard in the battle rap,underground and mainstream circuit. The first time I saw DonLadyii was watching her battle another female opponent in the Queen Of The Ring's actual ring. Yes... for those who don't know these ladies go bar for bar in an actual boxing ring, dope right? When I saw her I was taken back by her then pink and blonde hair. At first I thought oh no.. please dont let this be another "Barbie" chick... but when I heard her spit I thought to myself ok this girl has something here. I watched a few more battles and videos featuring this QBoro native (who I might add; has a very eclectic style. I'm all about being loud yet subtle so thumbs up Don Lady on your many looks.) I became interested in how far she will progress. Recently, I came across this freestyle DonLadyii did over Joe Budden's "Pump It UP" beat. Check this out. I for one think it's most definatly McFly.

Ok. I tried to get into this show. But it's annoying and a bit redundant. First and foremost the fact that the fiance' of Matt Kemp (Gloria) decided to do this show puzzles me. We all know that Shaunie O' Neal is the head hancho behind the franchise and spin-off show. To my knowledge didn't Shaunie and Gloria have a bout with words on more than one occasion due to Gloria's sister allegedly having an affair with Shaunie's then husband Shaquille o'Neal? So why is Gloria even on this whole bandwagon? According to her, she hates Shaunie. Smh.. anyway, The women on this show are very judgmental and hypocritical,Laura Govan in particular... She bashes the newbie to the group Draya every chance she gets. But according to all the blogs and gossip sites, as well as people in her circle, She was the same one having an affair with Shaq ( allegedly)So why continue to point fingers at Draya and call her a Groupie, Slut, Jump-Off and so on? Jealousy I see. I don't religiously watch the show. Every time I happened to catch it on it was in my leisure time. It seems as though these Cougars are pouncing on Draya and clawing away at her every episode. They should change the name of the show to Draya Haters LA . It really disgust me how these women are so bitter and are always prying into this young woman's life. They went so far as to bring up her past which they felt is true by Googling this young woman. Invading her privacy on so many levels. Gloria isn't any better. She bought this girl into her group of friends to get picked on or maybe it was the producers call. Nevertheless, every time Gloria invited her out it was to things like Paint Balling and Kick boxing. Really? Isn't that a little High School to play the mean girl role? In all actuality she(Gloria) isn't better than the Shaunie she so called despises. In fact I dubb her worse. Shame on these ladies. Basketball Wives LA is such a McFAIL!

Ten years ago I lost my Aunt Adelaide to Breast Cancer. Not to play the favorites card, but to be perfectly honest, She was my favorite Aunt on my mother's side. Anyway.. She died due to her doctor not having full knowledge of this defeatable disease. Science and Medicine has advanced since then and it is important for us to help aide in this fight against Cancer of all sorts. Hence the pink Ipod player to the right of this blog. The video that plays is called Warrior performed by Baltimore native Wish. It's a ballad of encouragement and fighting against all odds. I dedicate it to anyone who has had a loved one who you've lost from Breast Cancer or if you yourself are fighting it.
